Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (2016)

Directed By: Kim Kyu-tae

Warning: Spoilers!

I realized that I haven’t completed this challenge and it has been about two months since the last one. So I’m going to finish this before I start anything new, sorry about that.

This is a tough one because there are plenty of dramas that have good endings but for entirely different reasons. For this post, I’m going to pick Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo.

Go Ha-jin travels back in time (Lee ji-eun) to the Goryeo Dynasty. She wakes up as Hae Soo and befriends the royal princes of the Wang family. She falls in love with the kind and sweet 8th Prince Wang Wook (Kang Ha-neul), and then Wang So (Lee Joon-gi), the lone wolf 4th prince. Hae Soo gets caught up in a battle for the throne among the princes.

Now let’s talk about the ending in general terms, and I’m going to spoil it for everyone. There was no loophole that allowed the main characters to stay together despite it being true love. In fact, external factors forced them to separate which realistically shows how love can’t withstand everything.

  1. Hmmm… Considering how it ended, funny how you chose this one. Based on how this initially starts I didn’t imagine the person she falls in love with and she would stay together but again, still funny…
