Lyn’s Adventures: A Day Trip Around San Francisco

I have officially completed my first year of graduate school and the first thing I did when I turned in my last final was hangout with one of my favorite couples, Robert and Mel, and we took a trip to San Francisco to some great food spots and historic landmarks.

This hangout all started around 3 am one night when Mel decided to Yelp me this really good brunch place in San Francisco called KitchenStory. We decided to go there once our finals were done. This was a much-needed trip as I was having a tough time this semester. Aside from the mental stress of classes and being a teacher assistant, I was in physical pain because of a skateboarder ramming his skateboard onto my foot (causing a sprain) and also the fact that I was (and still am) a little heartbroken. This semester was tough, but I got through it.

Anyways, the purpose of this blog post is to share the places we visited and where you might want to go to if you ever come to San Francisco.

Food:

KitchenStory

KitchenStory is an Asian-American fusion restaurant. They take a typical American dish and add a little Asian spin to it such as adding Asian spices or tropical fruits and vegetables.

Mel recommended that I should try the coconut cream latte, and I did. I have no regrets paying $5.50 for it. It was really smooth and delicious. You can taste the coconut too which I love.

As for my meal, I ordered a Frisco Benedict with chicken mango sausage, avocado, cherry pepper, and Meyer Lemon Hollandaise. I love eggs benedict in general. I wasn’t completely sold by the chicken mango sausage but it turned out to be pretty good.

Powder

Robert and I saw Powder on Now This and we decided to go here because “Why not?” We were really curious about it. Powder makes shaved snow desserts. It has an interesting texture but the flavors we got weren’t too sweet. It’s a definite go-to place and the prices are decent. (Now This picked a great place to advertise.) Here are two possible shaved ice options you can get: Vietnamese Coffee and Matcha Green Tea.

Let’s Roll Ice Creamery

This ice cream parlor is located at Inner Sunset. If you never had cold fried ice cream rolls, you should definitely try it out at least once. It’s basically the American version of the popular Thai street food. I got Master Ube. Fun fact: Ube is one of my favorite ice cream flavors and yes, it is purple.

San Francisco Landmarks:

We actually visited these places to kill time and walk off the calories we ate. At least, I can say that I saw these famous places at least once in my life.

Mosaic Steps on 16th Avenue

This is completely free and you should seize opportunities to visit landmarks that are free. The steps are really pretty and when you climb the steps you can see a grand view of San Francisco. I climbed all 163 steps! (It isn’t a lot but for me it is.)

Coit Tower

We came here to catch Pokemon and see parrots. We caught Pokemon but we didn’t see any parrots. We also didn’t want to spend money to go up the tower and see the view, but it’s a pretty place with pretty houses.

Reflections:

While we were driving around to these places, I was mostly staring out the window. I completed my first year of graduate school and spent my first year living in the beautiful city of San Francisco. As we passed through different districts, I realized that I only explored 0.01% of what this city has to offer. I feel very lucky to have a chance to live here. I need to do some more exploring though…
