Sing (2016)

Directed By: Garth Jennings

In January, I watched Sing with my sister. I wasn’t going to watch it originally, but then I saw the dancing pigs on Facebook and it sold me. I watched it during the end of my winter break.

Buster Moon has a passion for show business and owns a local theater. However, his theater is running into financial trouble and so he decides to host a singing competition. The prize of the competition was supposed to be $1,000, but Buster’s assistant, Ms. Crawley accidentally added two extra zeroes, making the prize to $100,000. Now Buster has to figure out a way to come up with the prize money before the contestants and the whole city finds out.

I think what I like most about this movie, aside from the dancing pigs, was the covers the characters did for popular songs. My favorite character is Johnny, the teenage gorilla who has the mobster father. When Taron Egerton, the voice behind Johnny, sang Sam Smith, my sister’s and my heart melted a little.

Overall, it’s a fun and cute movie. The storyline is pretty predictable, though, but it’s a good movie to watch with kids.

I heard that there’s going to be a sequel and I’m definitely going to check it out once it’s released.

4/5

  1. I didn’t know much about the movie before I saw it and thought the whole singing competition was a scam. I really liked how passionate Buster was and the friendship between the contests.
