The next part of Father, I Don’t Want This Marriage, by Hong Heesu, just got steamy. In this volume, Juvelian Floyen and Maximillan “Max” Cassian Ashet’s feelings for each other have reached significant milestones, even though Juvelian’s father, Legis Adrei Floyen, still disapproves of their relationship.

Lady Juvelian is entering high society with a new perspective. She starts attending tea parties and formal banquets alongside her father. She has slowly been making friends with other noble women, including the Crown Princess, Beatrice Ashet. Meanwhile, Max has to leave Lady Juvelian to fight in a war against Rhagon.

Lady Juvelian’s Feelings For Max Grew Immensely

In the early chapters of the webtoon, Juvelian sees her relationship with Max as platonic. It is a contractual relationship, a facade so that she doesn’t have to marry the tyrannical Crown Prince (who happens to be “Max”). Yet, when Max leaves for war, Juvelian realizes her romantic feelings for him. His presence matters more to her than she thought it would. This scene marks a turning point in their relationship, during which readers witness the depth of their true feelings for one another. The only issue now is how Max will confess his true identity to her.

New Friendships Form For Lady Juvelian

This volume also showcases more character development for Juvelian. In her past life, Juvelian mistreated others. However, she is slowly coming out of her shell by attending social events, like tea parties, and revamping her identity. She has a willingness to befriend the noble women who once spoke ill of her. These intimate friendships allow Juvelian to show her true, authentic self to others and vice versa. By socializing, she is breaking the stereotypes and misconceptions that have molded her into an unlikeable person.

A new friendship is introduced in this volume, namely her unexpected bond with Beatrice Ashet, the Crown Princess. It is known previously that in her past life, Beatrice was the woman who stole Juvelian’s previous lover and is said to be the woman that Juvelian killed. These two women are destined to interact with one another.  It’s exciting to see how this friendship will develop in later chapters, especially since Max and Beatrice do not get along as siblings but are well acquainted with Juvelian.

In this volume, there were subtle clues to the mystery behind Circe’s Ring. The current ruler, Max’s father, has Circe’s Ring. In this chapter, it is confirmed that by using the ring, Max’s father can control and command loyalty from Legis Floyen. It is also revealed that Legis is trying to rewrite Lady Juvelian’s destiny, as it seems that he is aware of Juvelian’s death in a previous life. As a reader, I am excited to see what the next volume will reveal about this mystery.

The Art of Father, I Don’t Want This Marriage

In print text, the images of Father, I Don’t Want This Marriage, are mesmerizing. As a reader, I enjoyed the intricate and colorful detailing of the main characters’ clothing. The artist of this series took great care to understand the fashion of Western society during the Victorian era. My only issue with this series is the usage of blurry words to indicate background noise to the reader. As a reader, I thought the blurry words were a misprint. However, the blurring of words is intentional. I think the publisher could strategically format the text differently to represent background noise to the reader, because as a reader, you want to read all the dialogue.

The fourth volume consists of episodes 49 to 64 of the webcomic. You can purchase Father, I Don’t Want This Marriage Vol 4 on Amazon or at your local bookstore.
