Father, I Don’t Want This Marriage has finally made its way from online screens to print. The story is by Hong Heesu and is illustrated by Roal. The story is adapted into English translation by Yuri.

The first three volumes (Chapters 1 to 48) introduce the main characters and enforce common villainess tropes. Unfortunately, though, the early volumes fail to develop anything more than that.

What is Father, I Don’t Want This Marriage All About?

Juvelian Floyen is a villainess in high society and is accused of poisoning the princess of the Ashet Empire. As a result, Juvelian’s father abandons her and she takes her own life. Now, this should be the end of her story, but Juvelian Floyen mysteriously gets a second chance at life.

Once a spoiled and disliked socialite, Juvelian Floyen is determined to rewrite her fate. However, her potential new life faces a new hurdle: she believes that her father wants her to marry the tyrannical Crown Prince, Maximillian.

The Main Characters of Father, I Don’t Want This Marriage Are Like Most Villainess Storylines

With all the villainess stories circulating online and in print media, it is difficult to see how these characters are different from each other. They all blend. An “evil” female protagonist decides to change her life and live gracefully after learning that her poor decisions led to her downfall.

Like many other villainesses, Juvelian Floyen is seen as “bratty” and “rude” because she mistreats other female socialites and tries to capture the attention of Mikhail Albert Hessen by any means possible. Yet, soon, the reader learns that Juvelian is misunderstood as it is revealed that she is the one who is truly mistreated by others. Juvelian proves herself as a genuine person: she shows kindness to others, especially Max, her father’s protege.

Although Juvelian is a “plain Jane,” the series does an excellent job of capturing female readers’ gazes with the two main male characters: Juvelian’s father, Legis Adrei Floyen, and the Crown Prince of the Ashet Empire, Maximillian “Max” Cassian Ashet. These two male characters have pristine and masculine physiques that arguably every woman would fall for (including me). Aside from their physical appearances, they are characterized as strong, mysterious, and stoic gentlemen.

A Forbidden Love? Doting Father? A Delightful Love Story for Readers!

Max and Juvelian’s relationship isn’t a fairytale romance but more of a love that started from a transaction. They are friends, but she is using him to get out of marrying the Crown Prince, whom she believes to be a tyrant. She has yet to discover that the Crown Prince, is her father’s mentee, Max. She is in for a shock once she learns the truth, and as a reader, I can’t wait to see what her reaction will be.

Furthermore, her father hates the idea that Max and Juvelian are dating. Juvelian believes that her father doesn’t love her, but that is far from the truth. He’s quite overprotective of her. Legis Adrei Floyen is a doting father who would do anything for her daughter, even prioritizing her well-being before the King’s.

Aside from the romance, there is a political plotline brewing between the Crown Prince, Max, and his father, the current ruler. In the current three volumes, Legis Adrei Floyen is against Max’s royal father, but the current King has unknown control over Floyen. Hopefully, the next volume will reveal the secrets between Max’s father and Legis Adrei Floyen and also why Max hates his father.

Cover Art & Title Does Matter!

The only gripe I have about this series is the font used for the cover. I enjoy the artwork, but the format and font of the title, Father, I Don’t Want This Marriage, is a bit too careless. In every volume, there isn’t enough spacing between the title words and the cover art. Also, the title doesn’t stand out from the main image and at times, it blends into the image, making it difficult for the reader to see what the title is for the book. I would want the publishers to be a bit more strategic when it comes to fonts and positioning of the title, as the book cover is a bit too overwhelming to read.

Even so, I would still read this series because I enjoy a good villainess love story. It hits all the right categories when it comes to romance and entertainment for a trashy reader like myself.

The third volume of Father, I Don’t Want This Marriage released on April 22, 2025. You can purchase it online or at your local bookstores.
