We are Family! Thoughts on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 (2017)
Directed By James Gunn
My sister and I finally watched Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 in theaters this week and it was awesome. I love the douchey comments that Rocket and Peter made to each other, the dancing Baby Groot, and the touching family moments between Gamora and Nebula.
The guardians meet Peter Quill’s father, Ego and visit his home planet. Peter begins to accept his father, Ego, until he learns about Ego’s master plan: destroying the entire universe and creating a new one just for the two of them.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is very family-oriented and I’m not referring to how the content is safe for general audiences. What I mean by that is the narrative focus is on the importance of family. Peter Quill finally learns about his identity and meets his father for the first time in his life. As for Gamora and Nebula, their hatred for each other subsided as they “fight it out” and save one another. They still aren’t close, but they respect each other now.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 also conveys that family does not necessarily have to be blood-related. In fact, we learn that Ego’s love for his son is out of selfishness because he wants to use his son’s power to implement his plan. However, Peter realizes that Yondu Udonta was more of a father figure than Ego because Yondu saved him from death as a child by Ego. Although Yondu may have teased and traumatized him when Peter was younger, he means well.
This movie was hilarious and I love the insults that the characters pull on each other. I think my favorite scenes are the ones with Baby Groot especially the opening sequence when he’s dancing and the rest of the group is destroying a monster. The whole group is raising him and all I could think about is how corrupted he will be when he’s older.
If you haven’t seen Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, you should while it is still in theaters (I think).

Haha, as far as sequels go, this was really a fun movie. Even though the first movie was a little bit better in my opinion, I really enjoyed it a lot. And besides a third part, the Guardians will also appear in the new Avengers movie, which will be awesome. Glad you enjoyed the movie, and ofcourse great post 😀
