30-Day Asian Drama Challenge Day 19: Your Favorite Drama Genre?

My favorite drama genre is romance. I mean, I think you can tell just by what I’ve been posting lately. So for this post, I’m going to introduce another Southeast Asian movie.

Diary ng Panget (2014)

Directed By: Andoy Ranay

Reah “Eya” Rodriguez becomes the maid of the rich and hot-headed, Cross Sandford. The story has a love square where Reah ends up falling for Cross, but her best friend, Lorraine “Lory” Keet likes him too. But also, Eya’s other friend, Chad Jimenez, has feelings for Lory.

So the main characters are portrayed by Nadine Lustre and James Reid, who I heard are one of the popular power couples in the Philippines. They are a cute couple, and I love their chemistry. I watched some of their other dramas and movies that they starred together in too.

Diary ng Panget is an adaptation of a Filipino YA novel of the same name. My only issue with this film is the awkward transitions from one scene to the next, and some of the scenes, like the awkward school dance scene and the weird gang fight, felt forced into the movie—those scenes just didn’t seem to fit into the plot.
