30-Day Asian Drama Challenge Day 5: Your All Time Favorite Asian Drama?

Tatta Hitotsu no Koi (2006)
Directed By: Hitoshi Iwamoto
This is a tough question. Whoever made this question sucks. I’m kidding. I can’t pick just one, but it seems that I have to. So I will go with Tatta Hitotsu no Koi.
It’s a love story between a poor guy who helps run his father’s ship-repair factory and a pure-hearted, wealthy girl who is the heir of a popular jewelry chain store. The couple faces obstacles such as ridicule from friends and family due to their different social backgrounds.
I would personally recommend to people that are interested in Japanese dramas to watch this one. It has the Korean dramatics, but the storyline moves in a sufficient manner so there aren’t any unnecessary moments. It also nails the “rags to riches” plot concept.

Mine is Ashita no Kita Yoshio, about a depressed man that will kill himself in 13 days but first wants to tie up the loose ends of his life and of his regrets. I cried rivers watching it, since I really resonated with him, and he’s a damn great actor.
It’s short too, 13 episodes I believe, but not everyone’s cup of tea. I remember I watched it because it has the brother of Matsuda Shouta and Chiaki Kuriyama as actors in it, and it sounded interesting ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ

Oh wow. I never heard of that one, but it does sound sad. I think Japanese drama does well with sadness/psychological themes more than romance.
