30- Day Asian Drama Challenge Day 2: Your First Japanese Drama?

Nodame Cantabile (2006-2008)
Directed By: Hideki Takeuchi
Manga Created By: Tomoko Ninomiya
My first Japanese drama is the live-action adaptation of Nodame Cantabile.
I never read the manga nor have I watched the anime version. I have no interest in the manga, but I should watch the anime since the classical music performances are amazing. Personally, I think music theme manga should be heard and visually appreciated as oppose to being read. So you probably won’t see me reading the manga, and I know I should actually watch the anime, but I haven’t gotten any interest in doing so.
Shinichi Chiaki is an arrogant perfectionist and dreams of being a conductor. He’s even the top student at Momogaoka College of Music. While Megumi Noda or “Nodame” is a piano prodigy, but prefers to play by ear instead of reading musical notes. She is a bit messy and eccentric.
The two meet accidentally, and Nodame quickly becomes infatuated with Chiaki. It takes Chiaki a while to accept Nodame’s personality and strange traits. Yet their relationship helped each other to grow and develop as better people. In addition, they develop everlasting friendships with fellow students at the college.
When watching Japanese dramas, especially when they are adapted from manga, actors and actresses tend to overexaggerate their manga character counterparts. I’ve gotten used to it, but it does tend to make the characters seem fake.

I hear you. They do make everything so awkward when it’s an adaptation. Surprisingly the movie adaptation for Library Wars wasn’t and was fantastically acted.
I think my first J-drama was Itazura na Kiss after I got tired with the Korean one haha

Oh yeah, the over acting kinds gets blown out of proportion, which is why I like it when they make it more realistic for live action adaptations. It just doesn’t work as well with real people (^_^;)
I haven’t watched this, the anime or the manga, but I’ve heard so much good I’m actually afraid to start it and not like it because high expectations ORZ
I think my first JP drama was either Hana Kimi, which I find hilarious, Boys over Flowers or Liar Game, which are actually really good adaptations (from what I can remember from years ago😹)~

Oh, wow ! I thought I was the only one who thinks the acting, especially of the female protagonists , are …… I can’t even…….. Have you watched She is Beautiful ? I stopped watching because of the stupid acting of the main girl…. she drags her feet when she walks…. the worst.
